EU Commission reassures NewSpace of a 30%+ share of Iris2 secure comms network; SES, Hispasat plan to invest

PARIS — The European Commission sought to reassure Europe’s NewSpace companies that it was would guarantee them “at least” 30% of the value of the 6-billion-euro ($6.5 billion) Iris2 broadband satellite program despite the fact that the consortium likely to win the overall contract is stocked with Europe’s space-industry veterans.

Catherine Kavvada, the Commission’s director for space and innovation the the Commission’s DG-Defis directorate, also said the Commission will not let itself be railroaded by the consortium.
