EU Commission & ESA, hunting for spectrum, covet Inmarsat, EchoStar Mobile S-band, want EU-owned ADS-B network

PARIS — European governments have a friendly message for Iridium-backed Aireon, EchoStar Mobile and Inmarsat: We covet your spectrum for our future multi-usage, multi-orbit secure communications satellite constellation.

For aircraft flight tracking service Aireon, it’s L band. For EchoStar Mobile and Inmarsat, it’s S band, which both companies are using under licenses from the European Commission that expire in 2027.
