PARIS — European Space Agency Director-General Jan Woerner, after months of leaning one way and then another, on Feb. 28 said definitively that he would not seek a new term of office and will be leaving when his current mandate expires in June 2021.
Woerner’s supporters will lament that he seems to have thrown in the towel rather than battle against forces that, ever since he arrived, have tried to undermine him for reasons that have nothing to do with space policy.
