ESA budget up 10% in 2024; a year of expected return of launcher autonomy and a LEO navigation constellation

PARIS — The 22-nation European Space Agency (ESA) 2024 budget is a record-high 7.79 billion euros ($8.53 billion), up 10% from 2023 with increased funding from the European Commission and a huge jump in funds from member governments’ national programs that have asked for ESA’s technical assistance.

As has been the case in recent years, Earth observation is the largest single budget line item, accounting for 30.5% of planned spending, followed by navigation (13.5%), space transportation, mainly launch vehicles (13.3%), science (8 . . .
