EchoStar CEO: Our S-band ambitions, including wide-band constellation, remain intact with Dish merger

TUPPER LAKE, NY — EchoStar Chief Executive Hamid Akhavan said the company’s ambitious plans for a global satellite-to-unmodified-telephone network using hundreds of satellites in low Earth orbit will not be sidelined in the  merger with Dish Network.

Akhavan, who has been named chief executive of the combined companies, said combining Dish with EchoStar adds North America — and indispensable market — to EchoStar’s planned future S-band constellation. Without that, he said, the proposed network’s business plan does not hold up.
