CNES, PLD Space sign contracts for use of Europe’s Guiana Space Center; mid-2026 inaugural flight planned

LE BOURGET, France — Small launch service startup PLD Space of Spain said it’s on track to conduct one or two demonstration flights of its Miura 5 orbital rocket in 2026, with commercial flights starting in 2027, following the signature of two documents with the French space agency, CNES.

CNES is managing development of a new complex at Europe’s Guiana Space Center, on French territory on South America’s northeast coast, that will host five startup rocket developers. CNES is responsible for developing the common safety . . .
