China wins Cambodian satellite deal, continues roll-up of Southeast Asian customers

PARIS — Cambodia’s Royal Group on Jan. 11 concluded an agreement with China Great Wall Industry Corp. (CGWIC) for the construction and launch of the Techo 1 telecommunications satellite.

The contract is the latest in a string of wins for CGWIC in Southeast Asia, following telecommunications satellite contracts in Laos, Thailand and Indonesia. Next on the list may be Myanmar, which to date has leased capacity from Intelsat but has said in recent months it too wants its own spacecraft.

Royal Group was given a 30-year government concession . . .
