SYDNEY — Airbus Defence and Space of Germany and Spain’s Hisdesat are asking European governments to select an anchor customer/service model for Europe’s planned government-dedicated intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance constellation as opposed to a government procurement of the infrastructure.
Pointing to their jointly managed constellation of three radar satellites, the two companies say a leasing model would ease the capex burden on governments, provide automatic technology-refresh through competition and nourish Europe’s satellite manufacturers.
