PARIS — The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in April set aside its proposed requirement that satellites operating at 400 km or higher carry on-board propulsion for collision-avoidance maneuvers and quick end-of-life deorbiting: https://bit.ly/3bywISE

But the commission made clear that it would return to the subject after a fuller discussion with industry. The decision followed a broad protest from smallsat builders and operators, including university programs. Some said the requirement would be tantamount to putting them out . . .
