One of the sweetest launch deals ever: German military radar satellite healthy in orbit after SpaceX mission

PARIS — The first of three German military SARah radar reconnaissance satellites was successfully launched on June 18 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in what may be the sweetest launch deal since Iridium’s seven-launch contract for 70 Iridium Next spacecraft.

Germany’s defense procurement agency, BAAINBw, confirmed June 18 that the 4,000-kilogram SARah-1 satellite was healthy in low Earth orbit and sending signals after separation from the Falcon 9 vehicle.
