Global Eagle: Free WiFi is good for us, but it’ll take years before enough satellite capacity is available

PARIS — Aero and maritime content and connectivity provider Global Eagle Entertainment said a free-WiFi environment would be great for its business but likely won’t arrive for a decade unless airlines are willing to sacrifice business customers’ access.

Until then, it will work to provide cached entertainment options aboard aircraft to attract most passengers, a strategy in line with that of video streaming services that would preserve satellite bandwidth for the minority of passengers willing to pay for it.
