French CFE-CGC union on Airbus, Thales & Leonardo space merger: Deal makes sense, but forced layoffs must be avoided

LA PLATA, Maryland — The French labor union representing Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia Space employees agreed that the two companies’ merger with Leonardo Space of Italy could allow them to reduce redundant R&D spending by government agencies but called for the companies to commit to zero forced layoffs.

The CFE-CGE AED (Aeronautics, Space and Defense) union said all three companies are in good health in a market where European governments are increasing their spending, and that they can afford large . . .
