PARIS —Aalto HAPS and Sceye, two companies that appear on the verge of commercializing stratospheric platforms after multiple long-duration test flights, have delayed the start of commercial operations until 2026 as they complete regulatory approvals and extend their endurance envelopes.
Airbus-owned Aalto HAPS’s Zephyr vehicle and US-based Sceye operate sharply different vehicles but both benefit from substantial Japanese investment. They are also seeing new interest from defense and security markets as governments seek data autonomy.
