TUPPER LAKE, NY—Satellite fleet operator SES has signed a nearly 1-billion-euro (($1.16 billion) contract with satellite manufacturer OHB SE of Germany to build 18 medium-Earth-orbit (MEO) satellites for Europe’s Iris2 multi-orbit secure communications constellation, with deliveries to start in 2029 and operations scheduled for 2030.
The contract, announced Aug. 31, is the first big commitment to Iris2 since the European Commission and the Iris concession operator SpaceRise — comprised of SES, Eutelsat and Hispasat
