Intelsat, allied with Intel, proposes to cede ground on C-band in return for terrestrial operator payment

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California — Satellite fleet operator Intelsat, transforming a spectrum threat into a revenue opportunity, has joined with Intel to ask U.S. regulators to permit Intelsat and other satellite operators to cede the use of C-band spectrum to terrestrial wireless operators in specific geographic areas of the Unites States.

Intelsat has agreed to incur what says would be the substantial cost of moving or shading its existing receive-only C-band antennas in areas where the company has reached agreement with terrestrial providers looking to implement 5G networks.
